Who We Are

Hospital Homies is a volunteer-powered nonprofit that supports pediatric patients, their families, and the hospital staff who care for them. We partner with Child Life teams to host cheerful bedside visits, story time, and activity/gift kits. These visits are performed with family and staff approval. Our goal is to bring some fun and comfort to those in need. We don’t provide medical advice; we provide presence, play, and practical support.

Our History

In October of 2022, one of our co-founders, Devin Hays, asked the Child Life Specialists at Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children if he could accompany them on their Halloween patient visits. Although he was undergoing chemo therapy himself, Devin’s request was granted. He came to the hospital dressed as a fire hydrant and walked the halls with the child life specialists and their canine support dog, Posy. After being inspired by the joy brought to the other patients, Devin returned the following year. This time he dressed as a cowboy. After another incredible experience, Devin invited family and friends to attend more hospital visits. During these visits, they would bring candy, toys, and other goodies. One of the key aspects of the visits was reading short stories to the children. Focusing on the holidays, it soon became clear that there was a real need in supporting pediatric patients, their families, and hospital staff. Before Devin went to bed one night, an idea that he feels was too good to be his own, popped into his head. The idea was Hospital Homies. After the support of many, the organization gained legal status as a 501c(3) nonprofit in December of 2024. The organization has a dedicated board of professionals, co-founders, and volunteers that have begun to bring this idea to life. These exceptional people look forward to continuing this tradition and expanding to other hospitals.
